History of Mewatha Beach

Mewatha beach was previously part of Athabasca County. It was incorporated as a summer village in 1978 under the provisions of the Municipal Government Act at the time, as those owning property at the time felt they needed direct control over the area. Mewatha beach has become home to over 125 people over the years as slowly, over time, folks decide to retire at the lake.

Mewatha town, the lake, and the surrounding areas have become recreational areas in summer with water activities like kayaking, boating, and fishing. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, and other winter activities are also popular. Located on the western shore of Skeleton Lake, it is the perfect hideaway from busy urban life. 126km north of Edmonton, it offers an oasis of serenity.
